Webinar Series 2024

ETGUI holds webinar series throughout the year. In 2024, ETGUI held 6 webinars with presentations by experts from diverse water fields. Each presentation was followed by enthusiastic discussions from attendees tuning in from across the US, Ethiopia and Europe. The webinars focused mostly on Ethiopian case studies, but the wider eastern African and African contexts were also explored.

The Journey of ETGUI

In the early years, we started seeing more and more Ethiopians at AGU. Meeting a new face would lead to an invitation to the Wednesday dinner gathering and talking about ETGUI, which created a family feeling. Progressively, we started the initiative to acknowledge outstanding students at Addis Ababa University (AAU) with a monetary award and sending GRE materials to facilitate graduate school admission here in the US, which was extremely fulfilling (2011).

ETGUI at AGU 2021

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference was held from December 13 to 17, 2021 in New Orleans, LA. As always, it brought different geoscience researchers from the world highlighting the state of the geosciences. As the birthplace and inspiration of ETGUI, We (ETGUI members) often use the annual AGU gathering as an occasion to network, learn, and promote our work. This year was no different. However, the continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic have limited our numbers.
