Dr. Semu Moges is the current president of Ethiopian Geophysical Union International (ETGUI). He is a water resources engineer with over 20 years of experience in education, research, and consultancy in water, environment, energy, climate change, sustainable development, and water-energy-food nexus modeling and understanding. He is currently working as a consultant. He is also affiliated with the University of Connecticut (UCONN) in USA. He was a previous faculty of ArbaMinch and Addis Ababa Universities in Ethiopia. He has also thought in several African Universities including Pan African University. He authored and co-authored several peer reviewed journals articles, book chapters on the water, climate, and transboundary rivers systems.

Mekdelawit Messay Deribe is an independent researcher working on the Nile. Her background is in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering as well as Environmental Sciences, and she is currently a PhD candidate at Florida International University on sustainable and equitable utilization of transboundary waters with a special interest in the Nile basin. Mekdelawit does research on Nile water use academically and engages in public diplomacy in Nile basin countries as well. She has written multiple articles and had numerous interviews and panel discussions on the topic. Mekdelawit has worked as a consultant, researcher, and lecturer in Ethiopia and abroad.

Gabriel Senay is a founding member of ETGUI and has been serving as a Treasurer since 2007. Gabriel is a research physical scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey and a Faculty Affiliate with Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. He conducts research in the use of satellite data for agro-hydrologic applications. Education: B.Sc.-Alemaya University, Ethiopia; M.Sc.-Wageningen University, the Netherlands; Ph.D.-The Ohio State University.

 

Auditor

Meklit Berihun Melesse is the auditor of ETGUI and has been a member since 2023. Meklit, with a background in Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, is a PhD student at Washington State University. Her research area is on the Hydrology of the Nile with a focus on drought conditions.

 

Secretary

Sinafekesh Girma has been a volunteer Secretary of ETGUI since 2023. She is a postdoctoral researcher at the Yale Center for Environmental Justice at Yale University. Her work focuses on understanding and framing environmental migration positively and constructively. With a background in Integrated Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering, and Youth Advocacy, she specializes in holistic research development and project implementation.
