ETGUI at AGU 2025

The 2025 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Conference was held from December 15–19 in New Orleans, Louisiana. As always, the conference brought together researchers from around the world to share their work on a wide range of geoscience topics.

Aligned with the AGU2025 theme, Where Science Connects Us”, many of our members shared their scientific work through both poster and oral presentations. Several members also played leadership roles by convening sessions and serving as panelists in town hall meetings. Notably, Dr. Gabriel Senay from USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center, Professor Yonas Demissie from Washington State University, and Dr. Meron Teferi from the International Water Management Institute convened sessions on topics including measuring and estimating evapotranspiration, bridging science and practice, and advances in hydrology in Africa.

Our early career scientists were also well represented. For instance, Ethiopia Bisrat Zeleke, Mekdelawit Deribe, Bewuket Tefera, Alemayehu Shanko, and Elda Yitbarek Bezuayene, presented their research spanning diverse areas, including drought studies, Nile Basin water resources, disaster response, and bioenergy crops, among others.

In parallel with the conference, ETGUI held its annual meeting, bringing together members from the United States, Europe, and Ethiopia. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange ideas and insights on strengthening ET and expanding its impact, and concluded with an enjoyable networking dinner.

Beyond the science, the vibrant culture of New Orleans, from its hearty Cajun cuisine to its lively music scene, added an enriching flavor to an already inspiring week.
