Graduate Research Assistant Position.02/26/08
Applications are invited for a Ph.D.-level student to fill a graduate research assistant
position that is currently available with Dr. Laurel Saito in the Graduate Program
of Hydrologic Science at the University of Nevada Reno. The assistantship includes
a monthly stipend and covers tuition and health insurance as well as travel associated
with the project. The position will begin July 2008 and is guaranteed for one year,
with a possibility of renewal for an additional two years.
Applicants should have a M.S. in engineering, hydrology, statistics, mathematics,
computer science, or a related field. The ideal candidate should have a strong quantitative
background and interest in interdisciplinary surface water issues. Programming experience
with Fortran is particularly welcomed. The successful applicant will parameterize
and calibrate a hydrodynamic model to examine water quality and ecosystem dynamics
in a terminal lake.

Purdue Climate Change Research Center Fellowships.02/26/08
Purdue University invites applications for Purdue Climate Change Research Center
(PCCRC) Graduate Fellowships, in support of graduate study leading to the Ph.D.
degree in any area related to climate change science, impacts, and policy. Research
opportunities exist in multiple departments across the Purdue campus, including
Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Agronomy, Forestry and Natural
Resources, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Management,
and Political Science. The PCCRC will award up to two Fellowships to outstanding
first year Ph.D. students. Fellowships include tuition and fee remission for the
2008/2009 academic year and twelve month stipend support. The PCCRC was established
to support research and education activities focused on climate change and its impacts
on agriculture, natural ecosystems, and society. A defining feature of the PCCRC
is the broad scope of our mission reflecting the dynamic and interdisciplinary nature
of the science of climate change. Over 40 faculty members from departments across
campus form the core of our center and share a common interest in improving our
understanding of the climate system, how the natural climate system is impacted
by human activities, and how science interfaces with public policy. More information
